Different compatibility study methods are applied to different pharmaceutical dosage forms and different types of packaging materials. Delamination study and element migration study are applied to glass materials; simulated extraction and migration study of organic matter are applied to plastics; elastomer materials also need special attention to nitrosamines, PAH, and accelerant residues due to its production process. According to the characteristics of packaging materials and different dosage forms, we design reasonable extraction schemes, evaluate the potential risks of extractables, clarify the target extracts, develop and verify the test methods of extracts, and test the stability of samples; finally summarize the data for overall assessment of compatibility of packaging materials.
