The artificially isolated and modified genes are introduced into the organism's genome. Due to the expression of the introduced genes, the genetic modification of the organism's traits is caused. This technology is called genetically modified technology. Organisms modified by genetically modified technology are called genetically modified organisms (Genetically Modified Organism, GMO).

The main genetically modified crops and their acquired traits include: soybean-herbicide resistance (glyphosate), corn-insect resistance, herbicide resistance, rape-herbicide resistance (glyphosate, glufosinate), tomato-extended maturity, potato -Insect resistance, tobacco-drought resistance, insect resistance cotton-insect resistance.

Genetically modified food has always been the focus of attention of all parties. The new Food Safety Law has added strict regulations on genetically modified food, emphasizing that the production and operation of genetically modified food shall be marked clearly. At the same time, it is stipulated that where the circumstances are not marked as stipulated, illegal income and production and operation tools, equipment, raw materials, etc. shall be confiscated, and a fine of five times to ten times the value of the goods may be imposed, serious circumstances shall be ordered to suspend production or business or even its license shall be revoked.

A mandatory labeling system for genetically modified foods is implemented in China. As long as the food contains or uses genetically modified ingredients, it shall be regulated as genetically modified food, no specific content definition requirement. In the list of agricultural genetically modified organisms under label management, all agricultural genetically modified organisms listed in the label management list and used for sale must be marked. At present, only the first batch of the list of agricultural genetically modified organisms that implement label management are issued: 1. Soybean seeds, soybeans, soybean meal, soybean oil, soybean meal; 2. Corn seeds, corn, corn oil, corn flour (including corn meal with tax no.: 11022000, 11031300 and 11042300); 3. Rapeseed, rapeseed, rapeseed oil, rapeseed meal; 4. Cotton seeds; 5. Tomato seeds, fresh tomatoes, tomato paste. Although tomatoes are listed, there are no genetically modified tomatoes in China. All agricultural genetically modified organisms that are listed in the label management list and used for sale shall be labelled. Those that are not in the list of agricultural genetically modified organisms shall not be "non-Genetically Modified Organism" publicized and labelled.
